Food Policy: Policies are available on the website. In all there are 400-500 policies from the Dept of Education, so it’s difficult to print them off. The school will be doing more work on policies later in the year.
TREASURERS REPORT
Financial statements for 2008 have been signed off by the Committee and the auditors.
Profit last year of $50,000 up from $15,000 in 2007. A copy will be attached to the minutes.
Linda is now doing the wages for the canteen, having taken over from Lee Reinstrand.
Canteen: 6,985 – 3,490 in payroll
Main 9,239
Uniform – 19,000
Wish List
We now have a grant for playground equipment. Next on the wish list are computers and interactive whiteboards. Need six computers per classroom as children tend to work in groups of 6. In all need about 30 computers (around 30k)
Playground equipment $125,000 could include cricket nets, seating as well as climbing equipment.
Don’t want to run down our resources entirely. Want to have a minimum 5k at the beginning of next year.
We need to make sure people are aware of what the P and C have spent the money on – Linda will include an item in next newsletter in particular for new parents.
For fundraising need to have goals so people understand. Maria will ask Alicia Khoo to help us with the IT audit so we can make clear goals and targets.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT
School Uniform
At the school council meeting there was still discussion about the mismatch of school uniform which makes the children look mismatched. The dress is very popular in kindy but not further up the school. Year 6 last year had the leaving t-shirts which looked a lot better than dirty yellow. Feedback is fairly negative from outsiders. There is a suggestion to have a survey. The department is now more sympathetic to schools enforcing uniform policies. Feeling there is too much choice. Will bring a draft of the survey to the next meeting.
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
New times for lunch and recess: some contradictory feedback. Have developed a compromise model, maybe we will have a winter and a summer model.
Big thank you to everyone involved in the sausage sizzle
Mother’s Day Stall, very successful. The children really loved it. Thank you to the parents for wrapping and manning the stalls.
Anzac Assembly. Mr. West played the trumpet. Very moving service.
PSSA sports for years 3-6 has started and going well.
Canberra excursion is coming up for year 5 and 6.
Snake man coming for k-2. Dance troop and choir performing.
Open Day – have invited all the local preschools. Invitations will be sent out to current families.
The school is currently interviewing for the Youth Worker. Thank you to Scott for sitting on the panel. We are looking for somebody who is a good fit for the community.
Have made progress on the building work with water tanks, painting and sandstone entrance. Now the solar panels are installed, we’ll have a morning tea to say thank you. It has taken a long time to get to this point.
The shade structure. There are two sets of columns in the structure; one set was always going to be free standing, on the other side it was planned to tie the column into the 1970s building with its concrete structure to give extra structural support. On this side of the building it could be difficult to put in a pile, but there is a father in the school who has a non invasive system for putting in the pile. We would have to get DA approval to attach the column to the building as it is a heritage building, even though we are not touching the heritage side. The DA could take up to 6 months. Phil is going to see how confident the father is about the accuracy of installing the piles and then make a decision. Aesthetically there is no difference between the two options. The mayor of Waverley is coming out to the school this week; Maria is going to talk to her about fast tracking the DA process.
In order to get approval the school had to accept the responsibility for the maintenance of the shade structure, but it is not a big deal.
Saturday Growers Market. The DA was originally rejected mostly as a result of objections of the road traffic committee. Maria met with council to discuss ways around the issues. The general manager suggested re doing and re submitting the DA, if concerns were met there was a better chance of getting it through. Letter of support from P and C members would be helpful. The Sunday markets have been criticised for running on too late against their DA. We will be submitting a DA to increase the time for summer trading on the Sunday markets.
WAYS missed out on their funding for employment services. Have asked parents to write letters of support. WAYS and the school have a close connection. Proposed a letter of support from the P and C. Proposed by Scott Milson, seconded by Susan Woodford, passed.
Our hall application was approved by the department but got turned down by Canberra. There is another round of funding we can resubmit by 18th May. Maria is going to invite Malcolm Turnbull to the school to show how woeful our school hall is.
Have received $125k for playground equipment. Rules of the grant are changing constantly. Will put information in the newsletter for parental input.
FUNDRAISING
Raised $1,400. More successful than last year in terms of gifts. Next stall we will draw out of the hat which years go first.
Would like to do a school disco and a walk-a -thon. Looking for fun things that will engage the kids.
Correspondence.
Will look into putting a notice board on the website for items of correspondence and on the notice board in the corridor.
Need volunteers for City to Surf. 9th August.
Welcome Bar B Q – got rained out. It’s probably too cold and too late now. The kindy parents have had class parent get togethers.
There being no other business meeting closed 8.45pm
