BBPS P&C Meeting
Tuesday March 10 2009
7.25 Meeting called to order
Apologies: Linda Henson, Jane C, Cassie, Effie, Ali Sevenon
In attendance: Felicity Simpson, Brenda Miley, Fiona Treweeke, Alex Watt, Judit Varga, Susan Woodland, Louise Bell, Stephan Cunio, Aly Cato, Claire Bowken, Andrew Burnard, John Steele, Suzie Forell, Mike Woolley, Scott Milson, Brendan Boys, Aaron Crothers
Previous minutes. Accepted unanimously
Matters Arising
Food Paper:
Leaflet reminding of school policy on food is a good idea. Would need to be put out by Maria and a committee led by Helen.
It is suggested that the existing food policy be distributed to parents as a basis to discussion.
Andrew proposes a motion “the principal and school council review and distribute the current food policy for distribution by the P&C for review and discussion. The P and C also note that the policies are not in general widely available. Would it be possible to have printed hardcopies in a file in the office.”
Seconded by Di. Passed.
In general it is felt that school policies are not very well distributed and well known. Should be a hard copy of policies in the office and on the website.
NITS: Have put in information in the newsletter and a note.
Election of parent represenative to school council
Ali and Felicity both nominated. Felicity voted in, in a close vote.
Treasurers Report: Left until next meeting.
Presidents Report. Federal Grant has to be in by 16th March. A meeting regarding the grant was held before the AGM.
Fundraising Report. Looking to raise money for playground equipment, whiteboards, computers etc. Quote for the playground equipment was 140k.
Suggestions for the year: mothers day and fathers day stall. Tea towels, calenders, sausage sizzles, city to surf. Suggestion to add a cake stall to the sausage sizzle. Marketing of the cook book. Looking at perhaps a big event eg a walkathon, a school disco, an art show – both kids and local artists contributing art.
Small events lead to 25k, need a big event to get to 40k.

Dear All,
Happy New Year and I hope everyone is enjoying the break. I have had a great holiday away from Sydney and Bondi, a change AND a holiday!
Thank you for the flowers and messages of sympathy you sent for the death of my father in December. And thanks for continuing to meet on that day without me, it was much appreciated.
So.
2009 and the start of the school year approaches! The proposed teacher's strike may hold up proceedings , including our welcome BBq which we had plotted for the second Friday arvo but I will keep you posted.
See you in a couple of weeks,
Di xxxx

Current Issues : PARKING -a motion to council
Posted by Di Smith on 6-12-2008 (346 reads)

Dear All,
FYI
I know only too well what a hot potato this is. Here is , at last some movement. (I have not included Dominique's original letter of objection - which was lucid and to the point- but will if she does not mind)

Here is the sequence of correpondance, (in reverse as it's from my inbox.)

From John Wakefield to me Fri Dec 5 2008.....

There is no such thing as a "council pass". There are only "resident parking permits" in residential (ie not commercial) streets. The only "pass" that coucil use is a "Council vehicles accepted" and this is used for trucks etc in specific signposted areas.

Certainly the short stay spaces will only be available in the school time slots - the issue will be what happens to the residential parking ie now we can clear the residential parking outside the school b/c it is a "No Parking" in the school drop off and pick up times. As it stands it is a residential parking area at other times so, the short stay spots may have to be residential permit holders exempt (as they are for other time periods) and therefore the spots will fill up over night with residents and will not clear by the morning.

Anyway, traffic and parking are always more complex than people at first think; what we can do is bound by state government and national standards for signage etc etc. At least we can have a go at making it better than it now is.

John

Thanks John,
The parents will be very happy with that if we can manage it.
We were also tossing about amongst ourselves the possibility of the short stay free parking only being at school drop off and pick up time. 8.45-9.15am ans 2.45-3.15pm . perhaps with a council pass issued by the school. What do you think?
Merry Christmas!

On Thu Dec 4 8:57 , 'John Wakefield' sent:

Dominique

the motion below will be going to council at the next opportunity (in a couple of weeks):

"Council reviews the current parking restrictions on Warners Av adjacent to the Bondi Beach public school and investigates the feasibility of providing a number of short stay (5-15 minutes) spaces for the use of parents dropping off and picking up school children."

I have cc.ed Di Smith in the email as well as Di is the president of the school P&C - Di please let other parents know about this at your next opportunity.

thanks

Dominique

while it is not in my power as a councillor to annul your fine I will attempt to have the parking restrictions outside the school changed to introduce limited stay parking for drop off
